San Carlos Real Estate

San Carlos is one of San Diego's most well established neighborhoods. Made up mostly of families, the area prides itself on its sense of community involvement and friendliness.

Part of San Carlos' popularity comes from the abundance of family outdoor activities in the area. Mission Trails Regional Park, the largest urban park in the United States, provides great hiking and biking opportunities. Cowles Mountain, on that property, has several trails leading to the peak, where hikers can take in a view out to the ocean and Mexico. Nearby Lake Murray has a running path that is also used by bicyclists and skaters, and on the weekends families rent boats and go fishing in the lake. And San Carlos also has a great golf course, used almost year round in San Diego's great weather.

Because Mission Trails is so large and Cowles Mountain so tall, their presence is noticeable from almost anywhere in the San Carlos area. Many people have canyon or mountain views in their back or front yards, and planned landscaping is done in a way to complement the natural environment. The result is a neighborhood that seems fluid, not contrived.

San Carlos residents have several grocery stores and convenience shopping nearby, and Grossmont Center and Parkway Plaza, the local malls, both have movie theaters.

High school students attend Patrick Henry High School, a public high school with a strong emphasis on academics. With well-funded programs, both scholarly and athletic, Patrick Henry High School prides itself on its Advanced Placement participation and scores, and its ability to prepare students for higher education at Ivy League and other distinguished colleges and universities.

Most San Carlos homes are single family houses, although some apartment buildings have been built on the fringes of the area. The homes are about 30 years old, and although many have been modified they are on the whole modest, ranch-style houses. Reports from February 2006 put the the median price of a San Carlos home at $917,053.
