Rancho Bernardo Real Estate

Rancho Bernardo was established in its current form in the 1960s as part of a planned community built to cater to residents' needs. Residential areas here are interspersed with shopping, parks and golf courses, and the 45,000 residents enjoy great eateries and services right near their homes.

As the northernmost part of the City of San Diego, the commute into downtown is substantial (although simple; the area is connected to Interstate 15). Many homeowners therefore work in some of San Diego's northern centers of commerce. One of these centers is right in Rancho Bernardo, and employs over 50,000 workers in such companies as Sony, Hewlett-Packard and Siemens. The area is right on the fringes of San Diego's high tech industry.

During off-peak driving hours (evenings and weekends), however, the trip into downtown San Diego is an easy one, and many Rancho Bernardo residents head south for the excitement of the city.

In addition to being a convenient place to live, it's also a great place to raise a family. Rancho Bernardo High School is known for excellence, and there are several well-ranked public elementary schools in the area, as well as a few private schools. Rancho Bernardo has a reputation of being one of the safest places to live in Southern California, and parents are not hesitant to let their kids play outside alone.

The homes of Rancho Bernardo are mainly middle-class, although larger estates do exist in the area. In February 2006, the average home sold for $509,190. Rancho Bernardo real estate is appreciating in value at rates higher than in the rest of the city, especially on the western edge of the community.

Because of its family-oriented reputation, most of the residents of Rancho Bernardo live with families and are young parents. The other prevalent demographic is those who have raised their families there and have opted to stay for the convenience.
