Olivenhain Real Estate

Olivenhain is the perfect place to live for those who crave the solitude and tranquility of the countryside, but don't want to surrender the convenience of living around a city. The area offers both. Originally home to olive groves, Olivenhain was transformed into a residential community after World War II. Many of the trees in the area are at least that old, and when combined with the rolling hills and dirt paths that define this quaint area, Olivenhain is a charming remembrance of the past.

You won't find busy roads in Olivenhain. You won't run into very many other people—except for around the arenas during equestrian shows, the main public draw to the area. Horses are a popular hobby in the community, and children and adults alike take advantage of the large open spaces for their riding.

Most of the homes here are placed on large lots, surrounded by trees and obstructed from view. Many of them are custom-made, single-family homes. A few condominiums can be found in the area, but they are rarely vacated and thus very difficult to get into. The area is sprinkled with fruit trees and gardens; the temperate climate and large lots make gardening an ideal hobby.

The residents of Olivenhain are dedicated to maintaining the atmosphere of their community. Development in the area is limited, and the obvious pride that its citizens take in their surroundings has resulted in an extraordinarily clean, livable community. Instead of inviting retail stores into the area, Olivenhain residents make the short commute to nearby Encinitas or Carlsbad, charming areas in their own right, for shopping and dining.

Olivenhain is situated within the boundaries of two excellent public school districts—Encinitas Union Elementary School District and the San Dieguito Union High School District. A smattering of private schools are also available nearby.

Olivenhain single-family homes average about $1.5 million, but can range from $715,000 to $2.5 million. Condominiums average about $575,000. Available homes in the area are not on the market for long, so act quickly. Reported in February 2006, the average price for a condo or single family residence in Olivehain was $925,752.
