Kensington Real Estate

The Kensington area of San Diego is one that combines the hippest parts of the city with the classiest. The area is trademarked by Adams Avenue, which runs like a vein through the neighborhood, bringing great entertainment and more, but the soul of the community lies in the back streets, where beautiful homes sit quietly.

Kensington features California-Spanish style homes that sit on perfectly manicured lawns with streets lined in palm trees. Located right above Mission Valley and bordering dynamic Hillcrest, Kensington is a small neighborhood with lots of class. The homes are well maintained, the neighborhood is safe and kids play in the cul de sacs with no fear.

But this tells only half the story. Residential Kensington is lucky to border the dynamic Adams Avenue. Noted for its incredible array of restaurants and shops, Adams Avenue offers such traditional fare as quaint Italian restaurants and rare book shops as well as more cutting-edge shopping, like upscale boutiques and funky salons. Regular street festivals (like the annual Roots Festival and the Adams Avenue Street Fair) are popular with people from all over the city and bring fame, excitement and energy to the neighborhood.

These two sides to Kensington seem like they tell a conflicting story, but in fact they work quite in harmony. Adams Avenue is where Kensington residents stop by for their cups of coffee in the morning. It's where they meet up with friends on Saturday afternoons. It complements their neighborhood.

Kensington residents live close to downtown; about a 15 minute drive will get a commuter to work there. They are just across Interstate 8 from both Mission Valley and Fashion Valley malls, where they will be able to find whatever it is they're looking for, regardless of what it is. And they're 15 minutes from San Diego's beaches. Kensington is a gorgeous, convenient place to live. The average home in Kensington sold for $536,307 in February 2006.
