El Cajon Real Estate

What was once thought of as an area peripheral to San Diego, El Cajon has come into its own in recent years. Its 14.6 square miles are now a bustling center of activity, spurred on by its growing population and energy. With great shopping, performing arts centers and outdoor activities, El Cajon has emerged as one of San Diego's great places to live.

Especially remarkable is the care that El Cajon city officials have taken to ensure that the quick growth of the city does not affect quality of life. Careful landscaping preserves the look of the original city, and as the population increases, so have parks and recreational facilities.

El Cajon's recreational activities are great for both kids and their parents. Teenagers come from all over the county to spend a day at El Cajon's skatepark. The area also has abundant sports fields, parks and a community pool. The recreation center runs multiple programs for area adults—classes and social activities.

People are drawn into El Cajon from all over the country, as well. Once a year, cyclists gather downtown for the Bicycle Grand Prix—an elite race which attracts the best. But the less athletic members of the community are not excluded by any means. A children's race is held simultaneously, popular among the area's youth.

Located right off Interstate 8, El Cajon is just about 20 minutes from downtown San Diego and its beaches. The homes, mostly middle-class, reflect a desert setting, and have been more affordable than those in other parts of San Diego. However, as the city improves itself and as property in San Diego becomes scarcer, more and more large homes have been constructed. The average price of an El Cajon home in February 2006 was $392,988, although multi-million-dollar homes are becoming more common in the area.
