Cuyamaca is some of the most beautiful property in San Diego County. On the fringes of Cuyamaca State Park and with Lake Cuyamaca in the background, the people who live here view pristine land every day.

There are no real neighborhoods in Cuyamaca—just isolated rural property and some of the most spectacular homes that a nature lover could ever ask for. Built on acres of land, many of these residents can't see another home for as far as they look in any direction. All of these houses are custom made. Usually an owner buys a plot of property and designs his or her home around it, to take in the spectacular view of the nature around them. That means that much of Cuyamaca real estate has gigantic picture windows, wraparound outdoor porches and sunrooms.

Nearby Lake Cuyamaca makes for a great day trip. The lake allows fishing and camping, and many residents go there for short periods of time to hike around and take out small boats. Cuyamaca State Park has great hiking. It remains only partially open after having been damaged in the 2003 San Diego County Cedar Fires, but as the burned ground gives way to new growth, the park only gets more beautiful.

Residents of Cuyamaca also take trips to nearby Julian, celebrated for its apple harvests and its year round festivities. Those who want to make an occasion out of it stay in one of the town's many bed and breakfasts and ride horse-drawn carriages up and down the streets.

It is difficult to estimate a cost of a Cuyamaca home, because the prices tend to have more to do with the plot size of the land and the proximity to the State Park than the home itself. However, many of these are luxury homes and sell in the million and multi-million dollar range.
