Coronado Real Estate

Coronado is one of San Diego's most upscale communities. It is unique in that it is actually a peninsula that lies across the bay from downtown, and is connected by a sweeping bridge to the city. The real estate here is often called some of the best in the area. The geography of Coronado means that many homes are near to the beach, and planners ensured that most have wide, open yards and individual architecture.

The Hotel del Coronado (or just “the Del”) is one of San Diego's most recognizable landmarks, with its red roofs and turrets. Among other dignitaries, it has hosted 13 Presidents, and tourists and locals alike will visit the hotel just to have dinner or drinks and look for the rich and famous.

Coronado's shopping district is probably the best in the city. Its main street, Orange Avenue, is full of upscale boutiques and fun beach stores. There's a great variety of ice cream for sale, so kids are as satisfied as their parents. Apart from Orange, the Ferry Landing Marketplace is a great place to go to shop and eat.

Although millions of tourists march through Coronado every year, residents are careful to ensure that the area remains, above all, a residential area. The shops here remain unique, and very few are part of a chain. The restaurants are not all for fine dining and dessert; there are family restaurants that are popular with locals and have been here for generations.

The main draw to Coronado real estate, above all, is its spectacular beach, which is more wide than those you'll find on the shores of the mainland of San Diego. That means more room to play with the family, and on major summer holidays you'll find it packed with both San Diegans and out of towners.

The average sales price of a home here in February 2006 was $1,215,357. In this affluent community, homes sell for much more here if they are beachfront property, and homes are also for sale further inland. However, Coronado is invariably a beach community, and the feeling of the water infuses the neighborhood.
