City Heights Real Estate

City Heights has had a tumultuous history. Once a run down neighborhood where crime was always a threat, City Heights is in the process of reinventing itself as a safe neighborhood where kids can grow up and people can freely walk in the streets. For more than 10 years, private and public investment has given the community new, affordable housing and other infrastructure. And recently, the neighborhood turned the tide of losing residents. Now, population growth has led the area to view itself in a whole new light.

New residential sectors and commercial buildings are going up almost as quickly as developers can plan them. People are discovering the joys of living so close to the center of the city; Mission Valley borders the area and that means a 10-minute trip to the beach, a 20-minute drive to downtown and mere walking distance to the city's best malls.

Furthermore, the attention given to the area has provided it with some state of the art facilities. In addition to such practical additions as a career center (to train 10,000 workers annually) and the renovation of a shopping mall, the city has heaped great educational tools on City Heights. San Diego State University has installed a community center, the San Diego Community College District opened a new continuing education center, and Head Start has started its children's program there. The area is also benefiting from a new library and an Imax theater.

City Heights' education program is shifting as well. Model schools are instructing new teachers about the specific challenges of teaching in the inner city, and the results are paying off with higher standardized test scores. High school students attend Hoover High School.

The average price of a City Heights home in February 2006 sold for $394,220, and the homes there are growing in value more quickly than in other parts of the city. Potential homebuyers should check out new real estate immediately in order to take advantage of this fast revitalization of a truly dynamic neighborhood.
