Borrego Springs is due east of San Diego, and is situated about 85 miles east of the city. A small resort community of about 3,500 residents, Borrego Springs is situated near the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The park is located about 2 miles from downtown and contains more than 950 square miles of Colorado desert. The park is the largest state park in the contiguous United States. The park is named after Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza and the Spanish name borrego, or bighorn sheep.

The area is known for its ideal winter climate and natural beauty. Beautiful canyon and mountain views attract many visitors, including newlyweds in search of a romantic getaway. Borrega Springs is an ideal small town, with no traffic and clean air. In fact, there are no stoplights in the town, but Borrego Springs does have an airport. Because of the beautiful topography of the area, many artists and photographers are drawn to the area. There are a number of four-star spas and resorts to choose from for vacationers and business travelers alike.

Students are served by the schools of the Borrego Springs Unified School district, including one elementary school, one middle school, one high school, and one continuation high school. The teacher to student ratio is fifteen students for every teacher, and the high school boasts a 99% graduation rate; with more than two-thirds of graduating seniors going on to pursue higher education opportunities.

Located five miles from the center of Borrego Springs is the Rams Hills gated golf community. This community consists of six residential neighborhoods, an 18 hole championship golf course, along with pro shop and clubhouse. Each neighborhood within the community also have their own recreation centers, along with swimming pools, spas and tennis courts. Real estate prices are affordable compared with the overall prices in San Diego. The average sales price for a single family home or condo in April 2006 was $392,040.
